Thanksgiving Clean-up
Equipped with pointed and gripping poles and suitable clothing / footwear, thirteen Optimist Club members removed trash and recyclables from a designated section of Highway #2 south of Leduc starting at 9:00- 9:30am on Saturday October 10th.
Happily, the roadside was fairly clean however; fourteen full bags of trash and one of recyclables collected.
Trevor, Margaretha, Bob, Brian attended from the Black Gold Optimist Club of Leduc together with the Dinner Optimist Club of Edmonton. Congratulations and Thanks for a job well done to improve the environment.
Opt Margaretha was the winner with this year's big find!
Appreciation was expressed to the Edmonton Club for providing a lunch following the chore.

Thanks to all Attendees of our Club's 20th Anniversary Dinner and Celebration on September 19, 2015
Our Leduc Black Gold Optimist Club's 20th Anniversary Dinner and Celebration, held in the Royal Canadian Legion Leduc on September 19th, was a well attended success - both socially and in raising approximately $1500.00 via the silent auction conducted.

Fourth Quarter Zone 5 Optimists Meeting / Horseshoes Tournament / Leduc Club 20th Anniversary Social, Dinner and Celebration on September 19th
On Saturday September 19, 2015 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 108 (#5210 - 50 Avenue Leduc) the following will take place:
The Fourth Quarter Zone 5 Optimists Meeting, hosted by the Leduc Club, starts at 2:00pm in the Legion; followed by the annual Optimist members Horseshoes Tournament held in the park behind the Legion building.
After that contest, it is back into the Legion for those who have purchased tickets to the Black Gold Optimist Club of Leduc 20th Anniversary Social, Dinner and Celebration with cocktails starting at 5:00pm; the dinner beginning at 6:00pm and celebration events winding up the evening.

Letters of Appreciation are Presented to Local Establishments
Recently, framed Letters of Appreciation were presented to two Leduc establishments for their help to our Club.
* The Royal Canadian Legion Leduc Branch 108 donated the use of their auditorium for our 2015 annual Spelling Bee in April. They also sold some fundraising raffle tickets on our behalf.
* Playgirl Hair Stylists sold a number of our raffle tickets as well.
We THANK them both for their efforts and support of our Club Programs and Activities.

Take QEII North to Whitemud Freeway exit at 159 Street and turn North. Left at 83 Ave to 163 Street. Turn Left at 163 Street. Green house on west side halfway down 163 Street. Those that are familiar can park in school yard at back so we have more room in the front for the rest.

Donation Received from the Rotary Club of Nisku-Leduc for a Joint Fundraising Effort in 2014
At a meeting of the Rotary Club of Nisku-Leduc on July 2, 2015 our Club was presented with a generous donation cheque for our Club's assistance (along with other groups) in selling 50/50 tickets at Castrol Raceway during the 2014 season at the Motor racing facility. That money is then used to support our donations, Programs & Activities.
We THANK the Rotary Club and Castrol Raceway with appreciation for being involved in their annual, efficiently conducted fundraising program which benefits area Youth and Communities.

On the final day of elementary school which was Friday June 26, 2015 (before summer break) at Ecole Corinthia Park, Leduc Optimist members Donna, Bob and Denise attended the final assembly.
One female student (Liv Sveinsson - Grade 6) and one male student (Marc James - Grade 6) received framed Certificates of Personal Achievement and Community Spirit with Cash Bursaries.
The listed criteria for each honoured student includes:
· Displays initiative, scholastic effort and academic achievement
· Demonstrates respect for school rules and the rights of others
· Promotes friendship among all students and staff
· Shows a willingness to be involved in school or community activities and events
· Has a respect for self, respect for others and is responsible for personal actions
· Best exemplifies the Optimist Creed.
The two students were selected by school staff from among a number of worthy nominees within the whole student body. These awards are rotated around to a different Leduc area elementary school each year and this was our Club's 5th year of making the annual presentations.
CONGRATULATIONS to the deserving recipients and THANKS to all the school staff for helping to Bring Out the Best in Kids on an every day basis.

Donation Presented to a local High School Sports Team on June 25th
At our meeting on June 25, 2015, a donation cheque for $500.00 was presented to the Beaumont High School Bandits Football Team for helping us sell raffle fundraising tickets. That money will go towards assisting them purchase team jerseys and other required equipment.
We THANK the Team and coaching staff for their efforts in a Win/Win situation earnings funds for their team and funds for Optimist Club Youth and Community Programs & Activities.

On the morning of Saturday June 13, 2015 six Leduc Black Gold Optimist Club members combined with members of the Dinner Optimist Club of Edmonton to remove garbage from a section of Hwy #2 south of Leduc. A total of 8 large bags of trash and recyclables were collected.
THANKS to all the Optimists who participated in helping to tidy up our environment.

Volunteer Time Provided at the annual Rodeo of Smiles
On the morning of Friday May 29, 2015 Leduc Optimist members Shayne and Robin were able to attend and assist at the Rodeo of Smiles in the Leduc Rec Centre.
It featured a number of simulated rodeo events; enabling special needs kids to participate and have fun in a Rodeo atmosphere.
Held in conjunction with the Leduc Black Gold Pro Rodeo which ran May 28 - May 31, 2015, the Rodeo of Smiles is a terrific annual event which our Club supports and applauds.

The Winning Ticket was Drawn in our Club's 2015 Raffle Fundraiser
At a special; advanced date meeting on Thursday June 04, 2015 (with AGLC approval) the winning ticket was randomly selected from a drum for the Raffle Prize Package of two Edmonton Eskimos Gold Season Tickets PLUS $350.00 in Eskimos Gift Cards and Concessions Cards - to spend at the home games in Commonwealth Stadium. The first home game is Thursday July 9th.
The independent Ticket Picker was Lisa, the Manager of Smitty's Restaurant, who is not a Club member and had no tickets in the Draw. She is shown below with the randomly selected stub.
Congratulations to the winner and THANKS to all who purchased tickets and also to those who helped to sell them. The net revenue is used to fund our Optimist Club's Youth and Community Programs & Activities.

Another Donation to the Early Childhood Resource Program was Presented on May 28, 2015
At our Club meeting on Thursday May 28th, Loretta Hannah from the Leduc County Early Childhood Resource Program gave a talk on Positive Discipline for Everyday Parenting.
It was interesting and informative, as usual, and a donation of $250.00 was presented to help defray some of the costs incurred by that department in its commendable work for the community.
Our club is pleased to provide some annual support.

Club Elections were held on May 14, 2015 for President and Vice President over the 2015-2016 Optimist Year
At our Club meeting on Thursday May 14, 2015, elections were held and, by acclamation, Trevor Adair was elected to the position of President and Shayne Beveridge to Vice President.

Leduc Optimists assist at Bicycle Ride & Safety Event in Edmonton on May 9, 2015
Three Leduc Optimist members (Donna, Bob, Shayne) assisted at the Edmonton Dinner Optimist Club's annual Bikeree which was held over a designated course through the River Valley in Edmonton on Saturday May 9th.
Some 200 Cub scouts and group leaders participated in the day long ride and bicycle safety event.
Stations are set up at various points on the substantial course for checks on the bicycle mechanics and helmets; plus riding, steering, braking and other skills are tested.
CONGRATULATIONS to the Edmonton Dinner Optimist Club on another successful Activity Event which is always fun and educational for all involved.
THANKS to our Leduc Club members for providing their services to help.

Our Club's Fourth Annual SPELLING BEE is completed
On Saturday April 18, 2015 the Black Gold Optimist Club's 4th Annual Spelling Bee for Grade 5 only elementary school students was held in the Leduc Legion auditorium starting at 1:00pm.
Five contestants, from three Leduc area schools, were able to attend and compete out of the eight contestants from four schools who were scheduled to appear.
It was, as usual, an educational and enjoyable event for the students, spectators and Club officials.
Congratulations to all the competitors who received cash prizes and Award Ribbons based on final placements.
Also, all the students were presented with Participation Certificates and other gifts from sponsors.

Since each Club is autonomous and run by members in their community, Optimists have the unique flexibility to serve the youth of their area in any way they see fit. Optimist Clubs see a need in their communities and react to it. Our members are from all over Leduc and Wetaskiwin Counties. You may know some of them already. Optimists strive to live up to their name and maintain an upbeat attitude, which they try to pass along to the children they serve. The words of The Optimist Creed are well known to Optimist volunteers and beyond. The Creed gives volunteers a focus for personal improvement as they work to better the world around them.

A donation cheque was forwarded to the Northern Alberta Curling Association in support of the Juvenile Curling Playdowns held at the Beaumont Curling Club from February 5-8th, 2015.
BLACK GOLD REGIONAL SPELLING BEE
A donation cheque was forwarded in support of the Spelling Bee for multi-grade student contestants held at Caledonia Park School in Leduc on February 18, 2015. Eleven regional schools were to each have two competitors entered.
Our Club was pleased to assist with these events for youth.

Leduc Optimists Presented our Annual Donation to The Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation on Feb. 26, 2015
With Beverly Sawchuk (Senior Manager) from the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation in attendance at the last meeting, our Club presented its annual $500.00 donation to this most worthy cause.
She delivered a very informative speech on the scope of work performed and care given to help afflicted children throughout a wide region.

Football and Soccer Parking Fundraiser Money for year 2014 Has Been Received
During 2014, the Black Gold Optimist Club of Leduc assisted the Dinner Optimist Club of Edmonton with parking lot duties at a number of football and soccer games at Commonwealth Stadium and Clarke Stadium as a fundraiser for both groups.
A cheque for $2200.00 was recently presented, in January 2015, to the Leduc Club from the Edmonton Dinner Club and we extend Appreciation for the donation which helps to fund our various Programs & Activities.
Many Thanks also to those Leduc Optimist members who worked those games to produce the money.
